A fine-grained intermediate volcanic rock that is the
extrusive equivalent of granodiorite. It is similar in composition
and mineralogy to andesite, except that it has more
quartz and less calcic plagioclase than andesite. Dacites are
erupted in convergent margin settings including island arcs,
and in greater abundance in continental margin or Andeanstyle
arcs. They are typically associated with more silicic volcanic
rocks such as rhyolite.
