A formula that describes the flow of fluids
through porous media, assuming laminar flow and that the
effects of inertia are negligible. The law states that the velocity
of the flow is proportional to the pressure gradient multiplied
by the ratio of permeability times density, divided by
the viscosity of the fluid. Mathematically, Darcy’s Law may
be expressed simply as V=kS, where V is the velocity of the
flow, k is the coefficient with the same units as velocity, and S
is the slope of the hydraulic gradient.
