Arthur N. Strahler received his B.A. degree in geography in
1938 from the College of Wooster in Ohio, and his Ph.D
from Columbia University in 1944. He was appointed to the
Columbia University faculty in 1941, serving as Professor of
Geomorphology from 1958 to 1967 and as chairman of the
Department of Geology from 1959 to 1962. He is a Senior
Fellow of the Geological Society of America. He has been
cited for his pioneering contributions to quantitative and
dynamic geomorphology, contained in more than 30 major
papers in leading scientific journals. He is the author of 16
textbook titles with 13 revised editions in geology, earth sciences,
and related disciplines.
